Lane closure on short section of Central Promenade, Newcastle to facilitate NI Water work

24 February 2025 16:11

NI Water will commence work this week to install new stormwater infrastructure to serve the housing development constructed at Central Promenade, Newcastle.

The new pipeline will extend from the recently built housing development at 141-143 Central Promenade across the road and connect into an existing outfall pipe. A new manhole will also be constructed with work expected to take around 3 weeks to complete.

Speaking about the work, Ivor Pollock, NI Water Project Manager said: “This new pipeline will allow the surface (rain) water from the new development at Central Promenade – which doesn’t require treatment – to be discharged directly into the adjacent sea outfall pipe.

“All the necessary approvals are in place for the work to be carried out and we expect our contractor CivCo to commence pipelaying on Tuesday 25th February 2025. To carry out the work as safely as possible, a lane closure will be required on Central Promenade around the pipelaying area for the duration of the works. Traffic lights will be in place to manage the flow of traffic.

“Access to houses within any working area as well as the adjacent car park on Central Promenade will be maintained throughout the project. CivCo will liaise with any affected properties along the pipeline route with regards to access, parking, bin collections, deliveries etc and will ensure access is available to local bus stops. Pedestrian access will also be maintained throughout the duration of the works.

“NI Water and our project team from AtkinsRéalis and CivCo would like to take this opportunity to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to serve a new development in Newcastle.

“A letter drop has been carried out in the area and local schools notified of the lane closure. The project team will monitor the flow of traffic and strive to keep disruption to a minimum.”
