South Down Water Improvement Scheme Progressing Well

 | NI Water News

NI Water is pleased to announce that a major Water Improvement Scheme which will be essential to the future resilience of the water supply infrastructure for customers in the South Down area is progressing well, with a second phase of pipelaying scheduled to get underway in the new year.

Phase 2 of pipelaying along Kilkeel Road will commence in January 2025, with the works starting from Bryansford Road junction, moving along to the Castlewellan Road and eventually through Hilltown main street.

Pipelaying work will also continue along the Carmeen Road, between the junctions of Newry Road and Edentrumly Road. These works are expected to commence in mid-January and all work on this phase is expected to be complete in early 2026.

Due to the working area available and safety of the public and our workforce, a full road closure is required from the Newry Road junction to Edentrumly Road junction, however, works will be carried out in sections to keep disruption to a minimum.

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Glanua JV appreciate that work of this nature can be disruptive and would like to thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation as this essential water improvement scheme progresses. Signage and traffic management will be in place throughout the scheme.
