Sewer laying work commences – Killylea Road, Armagh

NI Water will shortly commence sewer works in the Killylea Road/Umgola Road area of Armagh. This work is part of a £1.4 Million investment by NI Water, which includes the construction of a new Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) at Killylea Road, and sewer upgrades in the west of Armagh City.
Sewer laying works to divert existing sewers to the new pumping station will commence on Killylea Road on Monday 30th September 2019, and we anticipate this work will take approximately 4 weeks to complete.
NI Water has discussed the traffic management arrangements with the Department for Infrastructure to minimise the impact of these works on residents, businesses and road users. In order for the work to be undertaken safely, it will be necessary to have a temporary lane closure on the Killylea Road between the junction with Umgola Road and Glenowna Drive for the duration of the works. Two-way traffic will be maintained with temporary traffic signals during this time.
Vehicular access for residents and businesses will be maintained as far as possible but may be subject to delays, pedestrian access will be available at all times. Parking restrictions will be in place around the working area.
Normal working hours will be 8.00am to 5.00pm, however is may be necessary at times for work to be undertaken outside of these hours.
This project when complete will provide a new modern reliable pumping station and increase the capacity of the sewerage network in the area, which will significantly reduce the likelihood of out-of-sewer flooding and environmental pollution to the Callan River.
