Ormeau Avenue – Planned Weekend Works 11th / 12th May
08 May 2019 15:25
Work is progressing well on this major £5 million project to improve the sewerage infrastructure in the Ormeau area, which includes work around Ormeau Avenue, Dublin Road, Bruce Street, Sandy Row, Joy Street and sections of the lower Ormeau Road.
Ormeau Avenue
Pipe laying from the junction of Dublin Road towards Maryville Street will be completed this week. The final section of this element of work will be a road crossing on Ormeau Avenue towards the BBC. In order to reduce disruption as far as possible close to the junction with Bedford Street this will be undertaken in two Phases:
Phase 1
The first half of the road crossing will be completed this weekend on Sat 11th / Sun 12th of May 2019. Working hours will be 7am to 7pm on both days. In order to undertake these works safely, and maintain traffic flows, all city bound traffic on Ormeau Avenue will be diverted via Linenhall Street during these times and localised parking restrictions will be in place.
Phase 2
Following completion of the above works, the second half of the road crossing will commence on Monday 13th May 2019 and take approximately 1 week to complete. This works will be undertaken during normal working hours, and for safety reasons a lane closure will be in place. There will be no access to Bedford Street from Ormeau Avenue during this time, with all city bound traffic diverted via the Dublin Road. Localised parking restrictions will be in place.
When complete, this investment will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding in this area of Belfast during periods of heavy rainfall. Environmental pollution will also be reduced, and the water quality in the Blackstaff Culvert and River Lagan will be enhanced.
NI Water would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and cooperation during the completion of this essential improvement work. We assure you that we will continue do everything that we can to keep all disruption to a minimum, for the remainder of the works.
ENDS.
