Stoneyford was the first Integrated Constructed Wetlands (ICW) site constructed in Northern Ireland. The Stoneyford site is a flagship project for NI Water, and we hope to develop this industry-leading example of how wastewater treatment can be integrated into, and indeed complement, the local eco-system. Furthermore, ICWs are proven to be low-cost, low-energy and low-maintenance in nature, compared with traditional solutions.
It is an important step towards the development of more environmentally-sustainable solutions, and we also hope to develop the site further to make it a popular community asset.
ICWs are proven to be low-cost, low-energy and low-maintenance in nature, compared with traditional solutions. They are particularly well suited to rural areas, and this project will promote a natural eco-system, as well as play a vital role in meeting future development needs in Stoneyford village.
