Essential Watermains Improvement Work – Balmoral Avenue, Belfast

NI Water has commenced essential watermains improvement work on Balmoral Avenue and it is anticipated that this work will continue for approximately 5 weeks. This project is good news, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the local area.

In order to complete this work efficiently and safely, traffic management will be in place. Due to the location of the watermains and the working space available, lane closures will be implemented as necessary and will be completed in sections In order to keep disruption to a minimum.

The majority of work will be carried out between 8am and 6pm. However, in order to reduce disruption and complete the work as quickly as possible, continuous day and night works will take place over a 24 hour period from now until the end of July.

Traffic management and signage will be in place in all areas as necessary to inform the public of the work. Where possible, NI Water will use state-of-the-art ‘no dig’ technology, which reduces the need for large open trenches in the road.

Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.  

NI Water will work closely with TransportNI and local residents to ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum during this essential work.  We will also co-operate with Translink to ensure that public transport functions with minimum disruption throughout the project.  

The public are advised to stay away from the working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites. Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area while we complete this programme of work.

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction have completed letter drops to those properties close to the working area, and would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed and would like to assure you that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.
