Sewerage Improvement Work Continues in Armagh – Newry Road

Work is progressing well on a £3 million programme of work to improve the capacity of the sewerage infrastructure in Armagh and work is currently underway on the Newry Road.
 
The second phase of work in the area will commence on 25 July 2016 at Folly Lane progressing towards the Cavanacaw Road. The work is expected to be completed in September 2016.
 
Detailed traffic management and working arrangements have been discussed with Transport NI, Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and the PSNI and it will be necessary to have a temporary road closure for city bound traffic for the duration of the works. However, signage detailing diversion routes and traffic management will be in place at all times.
 
NI Water and our contractor, BSG Civil Engineering Ltd are aware that there may be some disruption in the area. However, the scheme has been prioritised to take place over the summer months to reduce disruption and we would like to thank the public and local businesses for their continued patience as this scheme progresses. We assure you that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as practicably possible and working hours will generally be Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm and Saturday 7am to 1pm.

NI Water has investigated the possibility of night-time working on this scheme but this is not possible for the health and safety of both the public, particularly the residents of the Newry Road area and construction workers.
 
Once complete, the scheme will meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency standards, reducing the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and will facilitate future development within Armagh city for the next 30 years. Our ultimate aim is to complete a scheme that will serve the community long after the diggers and workmen have gone.
