Newry Road, Armagh Sewerage Improvement Scheme

NI Water can confirm that work will commence on a new sewer and sewage pumping main along the Newry Road in Armagh during the week commencing 18 June 2016.

This project is part of the wider ongoing Armagh Sewerage Improvement Scheme, worth some £3 million in total.  

The proposed construction work will involve the laying of approximately 2000m of gravity and pumping sewer together with associated manholes.
The first phase of this work will commence on 18 June at the Friary Road/ Barrack Street junction, progressing towards Folly Lane until 10 July. The second phase is planned to commence on 25 July 2016 at Folly Lane progressing towards Cavanacaw Road and is expected to be completed in September 2016.

Working hours will generally be Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm and Saturdays from 7am to 1pm. However it may be necessary to work outside of these hours on occasion.

Detailed traffic management and working arrangements have been discussed with Transport NI and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council to try and minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users. In order to carry out the work safely, it will be necessary to have a temporary road closure for city bound traffic for the duration of the works. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents where possible, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Diversions will be clearly sign posted.
NI Water will continue to liaise with Transport NI, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, and all our stakeholders throughout this programme of work to try to minimise disruption as far as possible.

We assure you that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as practicably possible.

When complete, the scheme will meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) standards, reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding in the area, and facilitate future development within Armagh city for the next 30 years by improving and increasing the capacity of the sewerage infrastructure.
