Final section of Carland to Cookstown watermain – A29 traffic management arrangements

NI Water will commence laying the final section of its 11km-long pipeline between Carland Service Reservoir and Sandholes Road in Cookstown on Monday 13th June. This final section of work will involve pipelaying along the A29 between Annagh Road and Strifehill Road.

To facilitate the work in the safest possible manner, the northbound carriageway will be closed between Annagh Road and Strifehill Road for approximately three weeks. To help maintain traffic flow in both directions along the A29 and in agreement with Transport NI, a short diversion will be in place along Annagh Road and Sandholes Road for motorists travelling to Cookstown.

Motorists wanting to access Annagh Road from Cookstown should do so via the Sandholes Road from the Loughry Roundabout. Signage will be implemented in advance to advise motorists of the temporary traffic arrangements.

Commenting on the work, Martin Gillen, NI Water Senior Project Manager said: “I am pleased to advise that this £2m NI Water investment to improve the security of water supply within the Cookstown area is now almost complete. NI Water and its contractor Dawson-Wam would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and co-operation while essential pipelaying works have been ongoing over the last few months. I would take this opportunity to ask for the continued support of motorists to exercise care when passing live construction areas to ensure the safety of our work force, themselves and the wider public.

“NI Water and Dawson-Wam are committed to completing this pipelaying work in the shortest timescale possible and with minimal disruption to the local community. Access for residents and businesses located within a live construction area will be maintained and any necessary reinstatement works will be undertaken as soon as possible following completion of pipelaying.”
