Ravenhill Rd, Belfast Sewer Improvement Scheme Re-Commences
06 June 2016 16:48
NI Water would like to announce that an essential Sewer Improvement Scheme will re-commence this month to complete sewer relining and repair work on the existing brick sewer on the Ravenhill Road in South Belfast. This is a continuation of the work completed in the area last Summer, which was postponed to Summer 2016 to minimise disruption to traffic flows. The work is required to repair and renew the existing sewers in poor condition and will help reduce the risk of flooding.Stage 1 of this major project which is located between Park Road and Broughton Gardens will start during the week commencing 20 June 2016 and will continue until early August 2016. There will initially be a week preparatory cleaning which will be carried out at night. During this time, a single traffic lane will be operational on the Ravenhill Road, with a traffic light system in place to control traffic flows. In order to improve traffic flows on the Ravenhill Road during this time, it will be necessary to close Park Road at its junction with the Ravenhill Road. Access for residents will be maintained via the Ormeau Road end of Park Road.
Stage 2 of the project which is located between Ravenhill Avenue and Ormeau Embankment is planned for August 2016. It will be possible to maintain two-way traffic flow for some of this section by making use of the central area of the road. However, a period of single lane traffic, with traffic light controls will also be necessary.
For this section of work some side street closures will also be required for approximately two weeks, affecting London Street, Dublin Street, Toronto Street and Delaware Street, these streets will be closed at the Ravenhill Road end.
During July and August, working hours will be Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm and weekend work will only be necessary to ensure completion before the end of the school holiday period. The Ravenhill Road will remain open at all times throughout the overall programme of work, with one lane in operation and two-way traffic flow controlled by temporary traffic lights 24 hours a day.
NI Water and our contractor Graham Construction will continue to liaise closely with Transport NI and would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we complete this essential improvement work. There will be no work on the Ravenhill Road during 11th-13th July Holiday period.
