Sewer Replacement Work Gets Underway at Queensway, Lambeg

NI Water will commence essential work on a replacement sewer at Queensway, Lambeg in mid-January 2016. It is anticipated that the works will take up to 3 months to complete.

This programme of work is necessary due to the collapse of a small section of sewer and will improve the sewerage infrastructure in the area and reduce the risk of flooding in the Queensway area of Lambeg.

Detailed traffic management plans have been discussed and agreed with Transport NI to try to minimise the impact of these works to road users, and enable the works to be completed safely.  

In order to carry out the work, it will be necessary to close the separated Belfast bound lanes on Queensway at the Lambeg junction. However, single lane traffic will be maintained in both directions on Queensway. To accommodate this it will be necessary to partially remove the existing traffic islands at the Lambeg junction, which will be reinstated on completion of the works.

During this time there will be no right hand turn on to Lambeg Road when travelling in the Belfast direction, and no right hand turn on to Queensway form Lambeg Road. In addition, traffic will not be permitted to cross directly from Moss Road to Lambeg Road at this junction. All traffic diversions will be clearly signposted; however some delays can be expected and motorists should allow extra time to complete their journey.
Once complete, the project will provide the local community with improved sewerage systems that are less prone to failure from blockages and sewer collapses. It will also reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and environmental pollution.

NI Water and our contractor AG Wilson appreciate that work of this nature can be unavoidably disruptive at certain locations, particularly where temporary lane closures and traffic diversions are required.
