Watermains Improvement Work to commence in Portglenone

NI Water is pleased to announce a major £300,000 watermains improvement programme for Portglenone, which will get underway in late June 2015. This project is part of an overall £2,000,000 investment in the wider Ballymena area.

The first phase of work will get underway at the Garvaghy Road junction, moving along the Cullybackey Road in sections towards the town. In an effort to minimise disruption, work will take place between the Townhill Road roundabout and the busy Main Street area during July and August.  The overall programme of work is expected to be completed at the end of 2015.
 
This investment is good news, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing disruption and interruptions to supply caused by burst watermains.

Traffic management and signage will be in place in all areas as necessary to inform the public in advance of the work. Where possible, NI Water will use state-of-the-art ‘no dig’ technology, which reduces the need for large open trenches in the road.  

Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.  

NI Water will work closely with Transport NI, PSNI, local traders and residents to ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum during this essential work.  We will also co-operate with Translink to ensure that public transport serving the village functions with minimum disruption throughout the project.  

The public are advised to stay away from the working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites. Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area while we complete this programme of work.
