New trunk watermain for Dunmurry as part of multi-million pound improvement scheme

01 May 2015 11:43

NI Water is to undertake pipelaying in Dunmurry this month, as part of its ongoing £14m Castor Bay to Belfast Trunk Main Scheme, an extensive project aimed at safeguarding the security of water supply for customers in the wider Belfast and Lisburn areas.

The work involves the laying of 1.8km of new pipeline to substantially increase the capacity of the local water supply infrastructure.

Speaking about the scheme, Martin Gillen, NI Water project manager said:

“A section of the pipeline is being laid through part of Colin Valley Golf Course, with the remainder affecting parts of the Old Golf Course Road, Black’s Road and Kingsway. The work is scheduled to start around the middle of May.

“The majority of pipelaying will be carried out under lane closures outside the busiest commuter times. To minimise disruption to road users, work will be restricted to between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Any road crossings will be undertaken at night so that there will be no road closures during the day.

“Signage will be erected in advance by our contractor, Lagan Construction Group, to advise motorists of any lane restrictions and anyone with any concerns can contact the 24-hour Waterline number on 08457 440088.”

NI Water and Lagan Construction Group would like to thank the local community for their ongoing patience and co-operation and assure them that we will do everything we can to reduce disruption in the area while we complete this essential improvement work.
