Co Tyrone Water Supply Interruption
15 January 2015 15:42
NI Water can confirm that 47 properties in the Strabane and Sion Mills area suffered a disruption to supply for a period on Wednesday 14th January. This is due to ongoing industrial action affecting treatment processes at The Derg Water Treatment Works. The problem at the Water Treatment works has been resolved and downstream Service Reservoirs are slowly recovering, it is hoped that customers will be back in supply later tonight. There is an ongoing issue in the Pomeroy area affecting approximately 35 properties. NI Water has multiple staff deployed in the area to address air locking in the system and we are hoping to have this resolved later this evening.
Static tanks are currently being deployed to the area and tankering directly to Pomeroy Service Reservoir to aid the reservoir’s recovery is ongoing.
NI Water fully recognises this is a frustrating experience for our customers, and can assure them we are doing everything possible to restore water supplies as quickly as possible.
NI Water would like to once again thank our customers for their continued patience whilst this problem is being resolved.
Unfortunately, with 26,000kms of watermains, 15,000kms of sewers and literally thousands of pumping stations and treatment works to monitor, it was virtually inevitable there will be interruptions to services to our customers.
NI Water remains on high alert with a Major Incident regime in place and we are committed to continued engagementwith Trade Unions in an effort to resolve this dispute. The company would stress once more the key demand that pension reform be delayed is not within its gift to provide. It believes dialogue rather than causing disruption represents the best way forward.
