Essential Sewer Upgrade Work Planned for Galliagh Area of L’Derry

NI Water is scheduled to commence an essential £912k programme of work to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the Galliagh area of the city in January 2015 for approximately 6 months.

The project will involve the construction of two new pumping stations. Firstly, an upgrade will take place at the site of the existing Knockalla pumping station, at the end of the Fairview Road. The pumping main, which takes sewage away from this pumping station will also be upgraded and a new pipeline will be installed from Galliagh Park to the new station.

The second scheme also involves the construction of a Pumping Station in the location of the existing station alongside the Upper Galliagh Road. The pumping main between this pumping station and Templemore Mews will also be upgraded.

Two lane access along the Upper Galliagh Road will be maintained throughout the construction of the pumping station and a traffic control system will be in place for up to 15 days to allow the installation of the pipework.

Both projects are good news for the local area as this essential work will improve the sewerage infrastructure and reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding.

As with all schemes of this nature, there will be an element of disruption. However, we will endeavour to reduce disruption and minimise the impact of our works on the local community. To facilitate the construction work in the safest possible manner and to minimise the disruption to road users, NI Water and its contractors GEDA Construction, in agreement with Transport NI have carefully planned the work to control the flow of traffic in the area.
