Essential £350k Flood Alleviation Scheme Planned For Roddens Crescent/Park Area

NI Water is pleased to announce that a £350k essential flood alleviation scheme will get underway in the Roddens Crescent and Roddens Park area of Castlereagh in January 2015 for approximately twelve weeks. This essential programme of work will reduce the risk of flooding in the area and will improve the general sewerage infrastructure to accommodate future demands.

As with all work of this nature, there will be some disruption in the area. Parking will also be restricted in certain areas, however access for residents will be maintained at all times. NI Water would like to thank the public in advance for their patience throughout this essential scheme.

Following this scheme, further improvement work will be required in Spring 2015 in the vicinity of the Knock Dual Carriageway. However, most of this work will be completed using underground trenchless technology which will reduce disruption in the area. Traffic management and signage will be in place with further detail as the scheme progresses.

Matthew Lundy, NI Water Project Manager said:

“NI Water and our contractor GRAHAM Construction would like to thank the public for their cooperation during this essential improvement work. We will also complete letter drops for those residents most affected by the scheme.

“The work may cause some delays at peak times but we shall continually monitor the situation to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum. We will endeavour to make sure the work is completed as quickly as possible.”

The working areas will have warning signs and temporary barriers erected to protect the public from these hazards. The public are advised to stay out of these working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites. Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area, while we complete this programme of work.
