Update on Flooding incidents 16 October 2014

17 October 2014 10:49

Following heavy rainfall across many areas yesterday evening, NI Water dealt with a number of reports of internal and external flooding.  We can confirm we dealt with 30 incidents of internal flooding at varous locations across Belfast.

NI Water did not experience any failures of its asset infrastructure.  Where blocked sewers contributed to flooding, NI Water has cleared these and will follow up with CCTV investigations if necessary.  Flooding incidents were related to the extreme and intense downpours experienced yesterday.  These downpours overwhelmed road, river and sewerage drainage systems which in turn caused flooding to some land and property.

NI Water staff attended individual properties and carried out clean-up and disinfectant operations where out of sewer flooding occurred.  We worked as part of a larger multi-agency response and assisted other agencies where possible.

Customers who experience flooding are encouraged to phone the multi-agency Flooding Incident Line on 0300 2000 100.
