Sewerage Improvement Work in Ardglass Area Continues – Sheepland Road Closure

NI Water will shortly be commencing sewerage upgrade work in the Ardglass area, including modifications to Seaview Wastewater Pumping Station and a new sewer to link this facility with the new Ardglass Wastewater Treatment Works.  

This is part of a programme of extensive investment, worth approximately £3.4million by NI Water in the sewerage infrastructure in the Ardglass area.  

To facilitate the laying of the new sewer in the safest possible manner, it will be necessary to close the Sheepland Road in two different sections from its junction with Strangford Road up to the boundary with 11 Sheepland Road.  

NI Water commenced work at the Strangford Road/Sheepland Road junction on Monday 23 June, with Sheepland Road closed to the junction with Ardtole Road from 25-30 June.  Sheepland Road, from the Ardtole Road junction to 11 Sheepland Road, will be closed from 1-4 July.  Diversions will be in place, and access maintained.  

Kieran Grant, NI Water’s Project Manager, said: ‘‘This essential work will deliver significant environmental improvements for the Ardglass area, and we would like to thank our customers in the area for their patience and understanding while the work is carried out.

‘‘The nature of the project means that road closures are inevitable, but diversions will be clearly signposted.  We will work alongside stakeholders, including Down District Council, to ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.  

‘‘The work also coincides with the beginning of the school holidays, and we would appeal to children and young people, as well as the community as a whole, to remember that this is a working site and not a playground.  We would appeal for the support of everyone in the locality to ensure that young people do not play in or around the construction works or machinery.
