Stoneyford Integrated Construction Wetland Public Information Session

NI Water is holding a “drop in” public information session at St John’s Parish Hall, Stoneyford on Wednesday 4th June 2014 from 2pm to 7pm. The purpose of the session is to give members of the public an opportunity to meet the team involved with the construction of the new Integrated Construction Wetland (ICW) on the Stoneyford Road and answer any queries they may have. Everyone is welcome to drop in at any stage of the day.   

Work is progressing well on the construction of the new ICW at the site of the existing Wastewater Treatment Works on the Stoneyford Road. It is anticipated that work on this innovative new scheme will continue until the end of 2014.

The ICW is a much anticipated solution for NI Water and our colleagues in the NI Environment Agency, Department of Regional Development and Lisburn City Council. It is an important step towards the development of more environmentally-sustainable solutions and we hope to develop this particular site into an asset for the local community.

The ICW solution has been developed from natural concepts and has been used for many years throughout Europe and the Republic of Ireland. The Stoneyford site will be a flagship project for NI Water and our aim is to produce an industry-leading example of how wastewater treatment can be integrated into and complement the local ecosystem.  

The method has a proven track record with low cost, low energy and low maintenance compared with traditional solutions. This environmentally-friendly solution is particularly suited to rural areas and will be built to accommodate the future development needs of Stoneyford, while promoting flora and fauna in a natural ecosystem.  

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and co-operation while we complete this essential improvement scheme. We will do everything we can to keep any disruption to a minimum.
