NI Water to Hold Public Information Session at Portavoe Reservoir
29 April 2014 17:06
NI Water is holding a public information session at Portavoe Reservoir on Thursday 8 May 2014 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The session will give members of the public an opportunity to meet the team involved with the essential reservoir safety maintenance work at the Reservoir. Anyone is welcome to drop in at any stage of the day.The public information session follows an information meeting with local councillors and council officials at Bangor Town Hall on Friday 25 April, where NI Water gave reassurances that the current safety maintenance work was not harming the habitat of the reservoir.
Bill Gowdy, Director of Engineering Procurement with NI Water, attended the meeting and commented:
“The councillors had a number of legitimate concerns regarding the environmental impact of the work currently taking place at Portavoe Reservoir. Once we had outlined the detailed planning and environmental assessments NI Water had undertaken before starting this work, I believe they were satisfied the work is not harming the habitat of the reservoir.
“The main concern now is ensuring the public are fully informed of the steps NI Water has taken to protect the reservoir habitat during this essential safety maintenance work.”
To this end, NI Water has committed to communicate progress of the work in a number of ways:
- A public information session will be held at the site on Thursday 8 May from 9:00am to 4:00pm, when members of the public can come along at any stage of the day and speak directly to some of the team involved in the project.
- Information on the essential maintenance work at Portavoe Reservoir is on http://www.niwater.com/portavoe-reservoir/
Mr Gowdy further commented:
“NI Water appreciates the wider concerns regarding Portavoe Reservoir and the potential impact of a future sale. NI Water will offer whatever assistance necessary to the Council should they wish to examine the possibility of purchasing the reservoir.”
