Essential Watermains Improvement Work Gets Underway in Lower Falls Area

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure throughout West Belfast. This £5 million package of work for the wider West Belfast area is good news for the local area, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

NI Water wish to advise the public that works are planned to commence on the 24th February 2014 on Hugo St, Clonard Parade & Clondara St. These works are expected to last for approximately 1 week and road closures will be in place. Local diversions will be in place throughout the works.

Additional improvement work will also take place in March 2014 in the following areas: Rockmount Street, Rockmore Street, Rockville Street, Rockdale Street, and St James Crescent – St Katharines Road. Further work will take place on the Falls Road and Andersonstown area in the coming months and residents will be notified in advance.

Unfortunately, parking will be restricted throughout this programme of work between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm. However, pedestrian access will be available to all properties at all times. Every effort will be made to restore access as soon as possible each evening and we would like to thank the public for their patience while we complete this essential programme of work.

“The scale of the ongoing watermains project has required extensive work on local roads. However, where possible, we will use state of the art low-dig technology throughout this programme of work which will enable us to lay many of the mains without the need to open large trenches.

“NI Water will, in co-operation with DRD Roads Service, do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum. We will also work with Translink to ensure that public transport services function with minimum disruption.”
