Watermains Team Scoop Prize at Construction Excellence Awards

Judges for the Utilities Infrastructure Category commended the project team for their collective work on the project, which represented a £2 million investment to improve and upgrade the water mains network in the North Down area of Northern Ireland. Due to the collaborative approach taken the project was also recommended for inclusion in the “Partnering” category.
A packed Culloden Hotel hosted the prestigious ceremony which is now firmly established as the highlight of the construction calendar in Northern Ireland. The audience, which included guests from across the political, public and private sectors, was addressed by Simon Hamilton, the Minister for Finance and Personnel.The Belfast to Bangor dual carriageway is one of the busiest arterial roads in Northern Ireland and required the joint project team to consult key stakeholders at an early stage. The programme of consultation with the local community, businesses and schools was completed well in advance of the work. The consultation was also supported by regular customer letter drops, press releases, traffic bulletins on the radio, as well as a dedicated website area and presence on social media.
The majority of the work was completed at night time during weekends to minimise the disruption to commuters from the North Down area to Belfast and to reduce the overall project costs.
