NI Water Angling for Games!

As Northern Ireland prepares to welcome athletes from over 60 countries for the World Police and Fire Games, NI Water is getting ready to play its' special role in the biggest international sporting event on our shores this year!

The Games will include around 57 sports at 42 venues across Northern Ireland.  This is only the fourth time the Games have been held outside North America, and Belfast is the first city in the UK or Ireland to play host to the second largest multi-sport event in the world, slightly smaller than the Olympics.

Killylane Reservoir, near Ballyclare, will host the Freshwater Angling event on 5 and 6 August.  Competitors from a number of participating countries are expected to take part in the event at the already popular angling venue.

Freshwater Angling is one of 56 sports the 7, 000 athletes at the Games will have an opportunity to participate in, and NI Water is very proud to have been able to make the facility available.

Maynard Cousley, Acting Head of Water Supply at NI Water, said: ''NI Water are very proud to play our part in what we all hope will be a successful World Police and Fire Games in Northern Ireland this summer.  Killylane Reservoir is, as well as an important impounding reservoir supplying the needs of customers in a large part of east Antrim, also a popular fishing spot, so is ideal as the venue for freshwater angling.

We wish all competitors and spectators at Killylane every success, but would take this opportunity to remind everyone to take care; reservoirs can be extremely dangerous places, even for experienced fishermen, and it is important that everyone, competitors and spectators alike, respect the environment they find themselves in and remember that this reservoir is an important source for the public water supply.''
