Final Stage of £4 Million Water Mains Improvement Programme on Antrim Road, Belfast

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure in the North Belfast area. Once complete, this project will be good news for the local area as the upgraded water mains will improve the reliability and security of the local water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.

NI Water would like to advise the public that work is due to commence on the final stage of our ongoing £4 million Watermains Improvement Programme in the Antrim Road area on Tuesday 7th May. Work will continue until the end of August 2013, and the majority of the work has been programmed to take place over the school holiday period in order to minimise disruption.

The new main will be laid between the O’Neill Road and Ballyclare Road on both sides of the carriageway. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times, but delays should be expected, particularly at peak times. NI Water will, in co-operation with DRD Roads Service, do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum. We will also work with Translink to ensure that public transport services function with minimum disruption.  

The majority of the work will be completed using environmentally-friendly trenchless technology, which means that most of the work will be completed without the need to open large trenches in the area, which will also help to minimise disruption.

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction will carry out letter drops in affected areas to advise residents of this work. We would like to thank the residents and road users in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work. There will be some disruption and delays at peak times while this work takes place, but we would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum. We would like to remind the public that two-way traffic will be in place at all times and access will be maintained to Portland Avenue and the Ballyclare Road.
