Sewer Improvement Work Gets Underway - Shore Road Portaferry
22 January 2025 11:32
NI Water is scheduled to commence the first phase of a programme of essential sewer improvement work on the Shore Road (between 118 Shore Road and 192 Shore Road) on Monday 27th January.
This first phase of work – which is expected to take around 5 weeks to complete – will involve the replacement of four manholes and a section of sewer pipe at different locations between 118 and 192 Shore Road. Work at each location is expected to take 3-5 days to complete.
To carry out the work as safely as possible, a lane closure will be in place around the working area. The lane closures will be relatively short in length and traffic lights will be in place where required.
Every effort will be made to minimise noise and complete the work in the shortest possible timeframe. For safety reasons, parking restrictions may be in place around any working area. Vehicular access to residential properties will be maintained throughout the works but may be subject to slight delays. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.
Phase 2 works will involve relining of sewers from the new manholes on Shore Road. This work is expected to be undertaken around the end of February/beginning of March and will involve similar traffic management arrangements.
NI Water and our contractor GEDA Construction are grateful to local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and support during these vital sewer network improvements, which will help reduce the risk of sewer collapses and out-of-sewer flooding.
