NI Water asks public to report any leaks or burst pipes
16 January 2025 16:30
NI Water is appealing to the public to be vigilant while out and about and report any leaks or burst pipes they may see.
Reporting is simple, there is an online form that can be accessed from any device at www.niwater.com/report-a-leak-or-burst-pipe or a call can be made to Leakline on 0800 0282011.
Brian McCalmont, Head of Water, NI Water, said: “The recent cold weather and thaw has lead to a number of burst water pipes, across our own network and within customer properties.
“It is important now to ensure these bursts are detected and repaired as quickly as possible. You can help by checking for leaks on your own property which includes your house or business. We are also specifically appealing to farmers, caravan park owners and landlords of vacant properties to check their premises.
“If you see a burst or leak on the road or pathways, you can alert us by visiting www.niwater.com/report-a-leak-or-burst-pipe/ or using our webchat service online at www.niwater.com/contact-us/ or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/niwater and X (formerly Twitter) @niwnews”
What to do if you have a leak or a burst pipe on your property:
- Turn off your stop valve (turn it clockwise) - most are under the kitchen sink. Try to block escaping water with a thick cloth like towels. Turn on all taps to reduce flooding. Don’t forget to turn off taps once the problem is fixed.
- Phone your plumber - type in your postcode at www.watersafe.org.uk to find your nearest accredited plumbing business.
- Phone your insurance company - check your insurance company offers you protection from the large scale damage that mother nature can sometimes cause.
