NI Water Presentation to Mid Ulster District Council
28 November 2024 17:02
NI Water recently met with Mid Ulster District Council representatives on Thursday 28th November, to discuss economic / development constraints in the Council area.
NI Water highlighted that it is working through the potential outcomes of the allocated budget from DfI to identify which asset investments may progress. An overview was provided on the proactive management occurring at Lough Neagh as well as discussions on key water investments such as Moyola Mullaghboy Trunk Main and Dungannon Wastewater Treatment Works. NI Water explained the reasons behind the developmental constraints which are currently taking place in the area and the importance of pre- development applications.
At the meeting, NI Water’s Head of Investment Management, Dr Stephen Blockwell explained that NI Water is pleased to have an opportunity to collaborate with Councils and developers to align this where possible with the Council’s ambitions for the people in their area.
Dr Blockwell said: “NI Water’s goal in the Mid Ulster District Council area is to ensure there is a modern, efficient service today and in the future.
“NI Water’s services play a pivotal role in protecting Mid Ulster’s and NI’s environment and in growing the economy. Locally, this includes a number of asset upgrades throughout the district, particularly key Wastewater Treatment Works investments.
“It is recognised that a capital investment programme of well in excess of £0.5bn per annum will be needed for the next ten years to meet the current & rising environmental standards and facilitate economic development. This level of investment is reflected in the Utility Regulator’s Mid Term Review Assessment of PC21.”
