NOTICE OF UPCOMING ROADWORKS – JUNCTION OF UPPER NEWTOWNARDS ROAD AND NORTH ROAD, BELFAST
15 March 2024 17:15
Northern Ireland Water plan to commence work on a sewer connection for a new development site at the above location on the 23rd and 24th March. It is anticipated that this work will require several weekends to complete. Future dates have yet to be agreed with DFI.
Please note there will be no work over the Easter weekend, 30th and 31st March.
Lane closures will be in place on the Upper Newtownards Road, however, there will be restricted access on North Road due to a partial road closure. Access will be maintained for local residents; however, this might be required via diversion routes.
Nigel McDowell, Developer Services, explained: “NI Water will be commencing work at the junction of Newtownards Road and North Road Belfast in order to carry out a sewer connection for new housing development. We will start work on the weekend of 23rd and 24th March but it will potentially require two further weekends to complete. We do not plan any work on the 30th/31st March (Easter).
“This is a busy junction on one of the busiest roads in Belfast, it involves a complicated Traffic Management Plan to keep traffic moving while also allowing our work to proceed. The Upper Newtownards Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction and there will be no access to the Upper Newtownards Road from either side of North Road. We realise that traffic and local residents will be affected but will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
NI Water fully appreciate the frustration this will cause and apologise for the inconvenience.
