NI Water recruiting three electricians within 35 mile radius of Banbridge

Award winning employer NI Water has launched a brand-new recruitment drive to fill three electrician roles working from its Newry hub.

The three permanent positions are available on NI Water’s Accelerated Craft Electrician Development programme – a specifically tailored training programme for experienced electricians looking to take the next step up in their career.

Following initial training covering all the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, successful applicants will qualify as Enhanced Craft Grade (ECG) Multi-skilled Electricians.

The roles will support the safe and efficient operation of all electrical installations and assets across NI Water’s drinking water treatment and wastewater pumping facilities across the wider Newry, Mourne, South Down and South Armagh areas.

NI Water’s Terry Quinn, Head of Mechanical & Electrical Services, explains: “These are transitional training roles within NI Water’s Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Services function to help already qualified electricians progress to the role of Enhanced Craft Grade (ECG) Multi-skilled Electrician.

“In this role you’ll receive training in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of electromechanical equipment within the water industry. It will primarily involve craft electrical maintenance activities supplemented by an element of mechanical activity.

“You’ll work on challenging and rewarding projects while being supported and guided by experienced mentors. You’ll receive training on specialist equipment and processes relevant to the water industry, all while having access to any supplemented college-based training programmes and other specialist training, to enhance your exposure to our unique technologies and practices. You’ll also be provided with your own NI Water van, really putting you in the driving seat of your new career!

David Campbell, who is retiring early next year after 43 years as an Electrical Craft Supervisor at NI Water, said: “I joined NI Water 43 years ago with my City & Guilds qualifications along with some commercial and industrial experience from working around the Newry area that included a fairly good background in maintenance, so I knew it was a good grounding for the role.

“I couldn’t fault my time here. It’s a great place to work. It’s a great team. It’s an exciting job, getting out and about to see the different NI Water sites and working on the huge amount of technology upon which we depend. The buck stops with the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) team. If the technology across our treatment and pumping facilities goes off, there’s great pride in getting it going again so that NI Water can continue to deliver water and wastewater services. It’s a job with a purpose. And I’ve made lots of lifelong friends along the way.
