Essential Sewer Monitoring gets underway at Market Street, Carrickfergus

A major programme of work is currently underway to monitor Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs). These are overflow points on NI Water’s sewerage network, which operate during periods of heavy rain and are designed to prevent ‘out-of-sewer’ and property flooding. NI Water is required under environmental regulation to monitor these overflows.
As part of the current programme of work, we have identified that monitoring equipment is required at Market Street CSO. This will involve the installation of monitoring equipment within the CSO manhole on Market Street; laying underground ducts across Castle Street and erecting a small kiosk adjacent to The Central Bar on Castle Place (beside the existing kiosk).
In a bid to complete the road crossing as safely and as quickly as possible, we will carry out excavation work across Castle Street at night between 7pm and 7am. This work is currently planned to get underway on Monday 17th May at 7pm and should be completed by Friday 21st May. Traffic management will be in place in the area during this time to facilitate this work.
The installation of the kiosk will follow on from the road crossing and will be carried out during normal working hours: Monday-Friday, 8.00am-6.00pm. We anticipate that this element of the work to get underway on Monday 24th May and again should be completed within one working week.
NI Water and BSG Civil Engineering would like to assure businesses and residents that we will do everything we can to complete the installations as quickly as possible and keep disruption to a minimum.
