NI Water Sewer Laying Works Continue – Main Street, Dundrum

Work is currently underway on a programme of ongoing sewer works on Main Street, Dundrum. This essential NI Water scheme represents an investment of approximately £4.2 million to upgrade the sewerage network in Dundrum Village to improve coastal water quality and increase capacity to meet future development needs.

Work on Phase 2 is progressing well, which has allowed School Hill to re-open earlier than planned. Sewer laying will continue along Main Street, with a further road closure commencing on Manse Road on the 18th November for approximately 3 weeks. Works on Main Street will be suspended over the Christmas period from Friday 13th December until Monday 6th January 2020, when this phase of works will re-commence and continue until Spring 2020.

In order to minimise disruption as far as possible to residents, businesses and commuters in the area, NI Water are liaising with Phoenix Gas to install both services at the same time.

Traffic management arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure, and in order for the works to be undertaken safely, it is necessary to have a lane closure in place for the duration of the works. Two-way traffic is being maintained with the use of temporary traffic signals, and there are some parking restrictions in place around the working area.

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering appreciate that this work is disruptive and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their continued patience as we complete these essential improvement works.

Once all phases of the project are complete, this investment will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and environmental pollution in this part of the sewerage network during periods of heavy rainfall.
