Main Street Dundrum - Sewer laying works to re-commence
05 September 2019 15:32
NI Water will shortly be re-commencing sewer laying works on the Main Street, in Dundrum. This is part of a major programme of work to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in Dundrum, and represents an overall investment of £4.2M. It includes the upgrade of sewers and replacement of two existing Wastewater Pumping Stations and will be undertaken in a number of phases over the next 2-3 years. Work on this project commenced in February 2019, and was suspended over the summer months.
Work will re-commence on Phase 2 on Monday 16th September 2019, and will involve laying new sewers along the Main Street in Dundrum. This phase of works will continue until Spring 2020, with works suspended for a short period in late December /early January.
In order to minimise disruption as far as possible to residents, businesses and commuters in the area, NI Water will be liaising with Phoenix Gas to install both services at the same time.
Traffic management arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure, and in order for the works to be undertaken safely, it will be necessary to have a lane closure in place for the duration of the works. Two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary traffic signals during this time, and there will be some parking restrictions in place around the working area.
Once all phases of the project are complete, this investment will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and environmental pollution in this part of the sewerage network during periods of heavy rainfall.
NI Water along with our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and cooperation whilst we complete this essential improvement work. We assure you that we will do everything that we can to keep all future disruption to a minimum.
