Work Progressing Well - Sewerage Improvement /Flood Alleviation Scheme Main Street Ballykelly
06 August 2019 14:26
NI Water Sewerage Improvement/Flood Alleviation Scheme is progressing well on Main Street, Ballykelly and remains on programme for completion by the end of August 2019. A continuous lane closure remains in place on Main Street and normal working hours are 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week until completion.
This scheme represents an investment of approximately £900,000 to upgrade the sewerage system on Main Street, Ballykelly. A number of homes in the village presently suffer from ‘out-of-sewer’ flooding during heavy rainfall. The main purpose of the work is to reduce this flooding risk and the impact on affected households. To do this, we have to install a major sewer through the village, which will take excess rainwater from Main Street to the river.
NI Water is pleased to confirm that we have been able to adjust our plans for the work required around the Glenhead Road junction. This is good news for the local community as it means it will no longer be necessary to close the Glenhead Road to through traffic.
Some parking restrictions are currently in place on Main Street, however all businesses in Ballykelly remain open for businesses as usual, with alternative parking available in the Main car park located on the Glenhead Road.
Mark Sefton, NI Water Senior Project Manager said:
“We are delighted that the work is progressing well and that we have been able to adjust our plans to enable the Glenhead Road to remain open, which will significantly assist businesses and the local community, and help us remain on schedule for completion by the end of August.
“We would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and cooperation while we undertake these essential works; we will endeavour to ensure that all works are completed as soon as practicably possible. Our main aim is to ensure we deliver an upgraded sewerage system that will enable Ballykelly to cope better with heavy rain in the future, which will be welcome news for residents who have suffered previous flooding incidents.”
NI Water fully appreciates the major disruption these works are having on those who live and work in Ballykelly, or commute through the village. During the works, our teams are on the road from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week, to keep the work progressing as quickly as possible.
