NI Water Update: Repairs to burst water main on Royal Avenue, Belfast

31 May 2019 11:48

Following a burst water main in Royal Avenue, Belfast on Thursday 30 May, NI Water would like to inform the public that water supply has been fully restored to customers affected.

NI Water crews and staff worked through the night to complete the repair, which involved deep excavation work at the site.

Brian McCalmont, Head of Water, NI Water, explained,

“The burst pipe was successfully repaired at approximately 2am this morning. The team had worked through yesterday evening and late into the night to complete the repair and ensure water was restored to customers in the city centre area ready for this morning’s trade. The work involved deep and difficult excavation of the site. Work is currently ongoing to complete the permanent restoration of the road.”

Due to the nature of the repair, Royal Avenue will remain closed at the junction of North Street and Donegal Street until this afternoon, Friday 31 May. Some resurfacing work and resetting of brick paviours will also be scheduled in the near future, once traffic management arrangements are in place.

NI Water would like to thank the public for their patience while we carried out this emergency repair work.
