Ground Investigation Work gets Underway-Ravenhill Avenue Flood Alleviation Project

NI Water will shortly commence ground investigation works in the Cregagh Road area. These are preparation works for a major Flood Alleviation Project, and will commence on Monday 15th April for approximately one week. This will include a number of trial excavations on Cregagh Road.
This work is being carried out to confirm the location of existing service and assess ground conditions, to assist with the detailed design of the project.
The main project is programmed to commence in Summer 2019, and is being undertaken to alleviate ongoing internal and external flooding within the Ravenhill Avenue area. It will involve the construction of new sewers on Ravenhill Avenue and adjacent streets. Once complete, this project will increase the capacity of the sewerage system, significantly reducing the likelihood of out-of-sewer flooding and environmental pollution.
In order for the works to be carried out safely, it will be necessary to have a temporary lane closure on Cregagh Road. During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary traffic signals. To reduce disruption as far as possible on this arterial route, the working hours will generally be 9.30am to 4.30pm; all traffic management will be removed from the road by 4.30pm each day.
Vehicular access for residents and businesses will be maintained as far as possible, but pedestrian access will be available at all times. Parking restrictions will be in place around the working area and signage and traffic management will be in place as the scheme progresses.
Following completion of these preparation works, NI Water will arrange a public information session to provide more detailed information about programming and traffic management arrangements for the main project.
