Ormeau Avenue Sewerage Improvement Scheme–Work Continuing in the Dublin Road/Ormeau Avenue area

Work is progressing well on this major £5 million project to improve the sewerage infrastructure in the Ormeau area, which includes work around Ormeau Avenue, Dublin Road, Bruce Street, Sandy Row, Hope Street, and sections of the lower Ormeau Road.
Dublin Road
The main pipelaying installation works are now complete on the Dublin Road, some traffic restrictions are still in place to facilitate pedestrian access around the works at the end of Marcus Ward Street, and some car parking spaces remain closed. These restrictions are expected to remain in place for a further 4 weeks.
WEEKEND WORKS – It is necessary to complete some road crossings and gulley connections on the Dublin Road. In order to minimise disruption on this busy arterial route this work has been programmed to be completed over the weekend of Saturday 30th/Sunday 31st March. Working times will be 7am to 11pm on both days, during which time traffic will be reduced to one lane on the Dublin Road. The following streets will also be closed at their junction with the Dublin Road, Harmony Street/Ventry Street/Salisbury Street and Marcus Ward Street. Delays should be expected in the area during these times.
Marcus Ward Street/ Pakenham Street - road closures and parking restrictions will remain in place until early April and diversion routes are clearly signposted on site.
Salisbury Street – Work on road gulley connections in Sailsbury Street will commence on 27th March and will take approximately 3 days to complete. During this time, there will be a road closure in place with access available via Donegall Pass/Maryville Street.
Ormeau Avenue
Pipeline installation is ongoing on Ormeau Avenue between Joy Street and the Ormeau Road, this work is expected to take a further 2 weeks to complete. A lane closure remains in place; two way- traffic is being maintained during the works with a contraflow system in place. For safety reasons, it is necessary to suspend some of the parking bays along this section of the street.
On completion of the above works, pipelaying will commence between Linenhall Street and the BBC, and is expected to take approximately 2 weeks to complete. During this time, a lane closure will be in place, two-way traffic will be maintained; however, there will be no access to Bedford Street from Ormeau Avenue, with traffic diverted onto the Dublin Road. Appropriate signage and traffic management will be in place at all times.
Other works continue on this project in the Hope Street, Sandy Row and Durham Street area.
Once complete, this investment will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding in this area of Belfast during periods of heavy rainfall. Environmental pollution will also be reduced, and the water quality in the Blackstaff Culvert and River Lagan will be enhanced.
