New Storm Sewer gets Underway - Castle Park Avenue/Dufferin Avenue, Bangor

NI Water has commenced work on a new storm sewer in the Castle Park Avenue/Dufferin Avenue area of Bangor. Work commenced on 28th January within Castle Park grounds for one week and work will then move on to the Dufferin Avenue area on the 4th February for around 6 weeks. We anticipate that the overall scheme will take approximately 7 weeks to complete.
The proposed construction work will involve the laying of a new storm sewer and associated manhole chambers to serve a new hotel development on Castle Park Avenue.
Detailed traffic arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure to try to minimise the impact of these works on residents, road users and the public. In order to carry out the work safely on the Dufferin Avenue section, it will be necessary to close the parking bays for approximately 2 weeks on the bus station side of the street. A temporary lane closure will also be required on Dufferin Avenue for approximately 2 weeks, during which time two-way traffic will be maintained. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents/businesses where possible and pedestrian access will remain available at all times.
To minimise disruption in this busy area of Bangor Town Centre, the section of sewer between Castle Park Avenue and Dufferin Avenue will be undertaken using underground tunnelling techniques.
As far as possible, working hours will be 9.00am to 4.00pm to avoid the busy commuter times in this area; however it may be necessary on occasions for the work to be undertaken outside of these hours.
NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we carry out this essential improvement work. We will do everything possible to complete the work with minimal disruption.
