Sewer Rehabilitation Works Get Underway in Moira
02 October 2018 12:41
NI Water will be commencing sewer rehabilitation works in Moira on Monday 8th October 2018. This represents an investment of £40,000 in the area, and is part of an overall programme by NI Water across the province to improve the existing sewerage network. We anticipate that the works will take 1 week to complete.
This work follows investigation works previously undertaken in this area, which identified defects in the existing sewerage network, which require urgent repair.
The work will located in the Main Street/ Backwood Road area, and will involve the repair/re-lining of existing sewers. All of the work will be undertaken using underground ‘no-dig’ techniques, which will minimise disruption, as well as providing environmental benefits such as reducing construction waste and carbon footprint.
Detailed traffic management arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure, and in order to carry out the work safely, it will be necessary to have a lane closure in place on Main Street during the work. Due to the location of these works and to minimise disruption as far as possible, the work will be undertaken during evening/night time hours. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents as far as possible and pedestrian access will be available at all times. Parking restrictions will be in place around the working area.
The working hours will be 8:00pm to 6:00am each evening/morning from Mon 8th - Friday 12th October 2018; with the road fully re-opened by 6.00am each morning.
NI Water fully appreciate that work of this nature can be disruptive, particularly at night and we will take every measure possible to keep this to a minimum including:-
- As far as possible completing the noisiest work activities prior to 11pm
- The use of silenced equipment such as generators/pumps
Where possible we will also seek to minimise the disruption by not working at the same location on consecutive nights.
NI Water fully recognise that works of this nature can be disruptive, however the works are essential for the sewerage system to operate at optimum capacity, avoid collapses and the resultant emergency repairs and reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding.
NI Water along with our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and cooperation while we complete this essential improvement work. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
