Sewer Improvement Work Gets Underway – Antrim Street Area Lisburn

20 July 2018 15:31

NI Water is investing approximately £500K to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the Antrim Street area of Lisburn. This is a continuation of the work completed previously in 2016/17. Work will commence on Antrim Street on Monday 23rd July 2018, and we anticipate that the overall project will take approximately 6 months to complete.

The proposed construction work will involve the upgrade of existing sewers on Antrim Street and Antrim Road (rear entrance to Bow Street Mall), and the relocation and upgrade of an existing Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) from Antrim Street into the Antrim Street car park. A section of the Antrim Street car park will required for the construction works, which will reduce the number of car parking spaces available.

The first section of work will take place on Antrim Street and Antrim Road (rear entrance to Bow Street Mall). In order to carry out this work safely, it will be necessary to have a one-way road closure in place, with traffic diverted along Bachelors Walk. This will commence on Monday 23rdJuly and will be in place for approximately 5 weeks. During this period, the entrance to Bow Street Mall will also be reduced to one lane; temporary traffic controls will be in place to maintain two-way access to the Mall.

The footway within the road closure area on Antrim Street will be unavailable during the works. An alternative pedestrian’s route will be in place, through the Antrim Street car park and will be clearly signposted.

On completion of the work on Antrim Street, construction will move into the Antrim Street car park and will continue until December 2018.

Once complete, this investment will significantly improve the existing infrastructure, reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and environmental pollution and protect the water quality in the River Lagan.

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and cooperation whilst we complete this essential improvement work. We assure you that we will do everything that we can to minimise disruption as far as possible.

ENDS.
