NI Water Sewer Rehabilitation Work Continues – Springwell Park, Groomsport
13 March 2018 15:33
Works are continuing on this essential sewer project, which represents a £220,000 investment by NI Water to improve and upgrade the existing infrastructure in Groomsport. This will reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding, environmental pollution and will help improve the bathing waters in the area.
Works commenced in late January on the Donaghadee Road, and we anticipate the overall project will be completed in June 2018.
NI Water will continue to liaise with the Department for Infrastructure and all our stakeholders to try to minimise the impact of these works on residents, businesses, road users and the public. In order to carry out the work safely, a temporary road closure is currently in place on the Donaghadee Road, with vehicular access maintained for residents and pedestrian access available at all times.
NI Water would like to remind the public that all businesses on Main Street, Groomsport remain open for Business as usual, with access available from the Groomsport Road roundabout.
The current road closure will remain in place until 29th March 2018, and works will then be suspended and the road re-opened for a short period over Easter. After Easter, work on the Donaghadee Road will recommence under a lane closure. During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary traffic lights, with traffic able to access Groomsport Village from either direction. We currently anticipate that sewer laying on the Donaghadee Road will be completed by May 2018.
On completion of sewer laying on the Donaghadee Road, works will progress onto the A2 (Donaghadee Road), also under a lane closure for up to 5 weeks, and then will finally move into Springwell Park.
Normal working hours will be 8.00am to 5.30pm; however, it may be necessary on occasions for the work to be undertaken outside of these hours.
NI Water fully appreciate that this work is disruptive and would like to thank business owners, the public and commuters for their continued patience and co-operation. We will continue to do everything possible to reduce disruption while we complete these essential works. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
As proud partners of NI Year of Infrastructure 2018, NI Water is helping to raise awareness of how infrastructure underpins our lives. This investment in the Groomsport area is an excellent example of the importance of our infrastructure to help reduce the risk of flooding and protect the environment.
