Sewer Rehabilitation Work Continues in Newtownards

12 September 2017 16:08

Work is currently underway on NI Water’s Sewer Rehabilitation Project in the Newtownards area. This work follows the initial stage one investigation works, which were completed in the Newtownards area in 2015/16. The works identified a number of sections of the existing sewers, which are in very poor condition and need repaired to avoid potential future collapse or flooding issues. Stage two is now underway and involves the actual improvement works, which includes the repair of short sections of sewer at isolated locations as well as the laying of some sections of new replacement pipelines and associated works. It is anticipated that work on this phase of the essential improvement programme will continue until the end of November 2017, with further phases to follow at other locations.

Following discussions with the Department for Infrastructure, it will be necessary at some locations to have lane/road closures in place in order for the works to be carried out safely. This is to protect the safety of road users, the public, and construction workers. Due to the location of these works, it will also be necessary for some works to be undertaken outside of normal working hours, this may include Sundays and evening / night-time work. We will endeavour to minimise noise as far as possible during these times.

Work will be undertaken at the following locations within the town centre:-

Church Street, Regent Street, Frances Street, Castle Street, Market Street, West Street, Brewery Lane, Mill Street, High Street, Ann Street,  Greenwell Street and Manor Court, Mary Street and Canal Row.

Traffic management and signage will be in place in all areas as necessary to inform the public in advance of the work. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents/businesses as far as possible, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Our contractor will liaise directly with businesses affected by traffic management restrictions regarding access for deliveries etc.

NI Water would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation and will do everything we can to reduce disruption while we complete these essential works. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.

ENDS.
