£3 Million Investment Complete at Camlough Reservoir

NI Water and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are pleased to announce that a £3 million programme of work has been completed at Camlough Reservoir. This project will improve the facility to provide an enhanced recreational and tourism resource for the future.
This project included strengthening the reservoir embankment to provide extra security in the event of heavy rainfall and the construction of a valve tower to control flows from the lake.
Ronan Larkin, NI Water’s Director of Finance and Regulation said: “Alongside our partners in the council, we at NI Water are delighted to announce the completion of the Camlough Reservoir project, which will enhance and improve this great community amenity.
“The NI Water team have enjoyed working in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, as well as the many stakeholders and user groups at the lake to complete this essential work, which is so important for the local community.
“As custodians of Silent Valley Reservoir, we also look forward to continuing our working partnerships with the council on Silent Valley events and contribution to the overall Newry Mourne and Down Visitor Experience.”
Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew, added: “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are delighted with the completion of this project to enhance the lake as an important recreational resource for the future. We have already held our Crooked Lake Triathalon, which was a great success for the Camlough area.
“The wave wall and valve tower at the reservoir has been clad with locally sourced granite, which has helped to reduce costs and enhanced the look of the dam.
“I also commend all the Camlough Lake user groups for their input on this project to date and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with NI Water on other local tourism projects such as Silent Valley.”
Maghera-based BSG Civil Engineering is the main contractor on this project, with AECOM providing project management and technical support.
