Ready, Steady, Go on Water!
09 June 2017 10:55
With the school still having a few weeks to go, and with some good weather hopefully on the horizon (everything crossed!), it’s important for everyone to stay hydrated, especially our little ones as they gear up for sports day.
Water helps to reduce the risk of tiredness, increases concentration and vitality, and improves memory. It also reduces the risk of cramps and tiredness and helps with healthy skin, bones, hair and nails as well as providing extra energy.
NI Water’s Outreach and Learning Officer Anna Killen, comments, “One of NI Water's initiatives is 'Water for Health', which is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of drinking water as part of a healthy lifestyle.
“NI Water is keen to encourage everyone to ‘run’ on water and drink the recommended 6-8 glasses per day. This is especially important for school children who may be getting ready for sports day. Even slight dehydration can cause feelings of tiredness, headaches and reduced alertness.
‘‘We all tend to get outside a bit more over the summer, whether it’s to work in the garden, get some DIY completed or just to enjoy ourselves. Whatever we do, we should make sure we’re well hydrated.”
Water is a basic nutrient of the body and is essential for survival. It is important to keep your body hydrated to flush toxins from your system whilst retaining vital vitamins and minerals. Water forms a major part of our blood (approximately 82%), lubricates joints, eyes, aids digestion and helps you look better by keeping skin smooth.
So, tap into health and drink the recommended 6-8 glasses of water per day. Water is fat free, has no calories and with NI Water supplying high quality drinking water to our taps, keeping your fluid levels topped up couldn’t be easier.
