NI Water’s Finance and Regulation marathon relay teams are straight off the block training and fundraising for this year’s Belfast Marathon Relay event. The teams have chosen to support local cancer charity Action Cancer, which provides vital screening and support services. The Action Cancer Big Bus was recently at NI Water sites providing breast screening and health promotion services to staff. Peter McNamee, one of the relay runners explains:
“As a company, we have had a few members of staff affected by cancer, either dealing with a diagnosis or coping with the impact of a family member living with the disease. Cancer has an impact on every one of us. We chose to support Action Cancer because the work they do in early detection and awareness really does save lives. If we can help this work by even raising a small amount of money, we shall be delighted.
“Not all of us are natural runners, so we have to keep the spirits up and encourage the whole team. To keep it in perspective, though, our challenge is just for a few hours; those living with cancer have to deal with it every single day. It is this thought that keeps us going – we want to show our solidarity and support for those around us who are living with that struggle at the moment.”
