Co Tyrone Farmer Convicted at Strabane Court

Mr James Byrne from Castlederg, Co Tyrone, pleaded guilty at Strabane Court on 12 January 2017 to an offence under the Water and Sewerage Services (NI) Order 2006, of connecting to a public water main without consent. He was fined £250 with an offender’s levy fee of £15. Mr Byrne was also ordered to pay the £28 court stamp fee. In addition, the Court also ordered that prosecuting Counsel’s full fee of £750 + VAT be paid by the Defendant.

It is an offence to connect to the water or sewerage network without consent.  NI Water takes any interference with its network very seriously and will seek to bring those that carry out this crime to court when identified. This is not a ‘victimless crime’.  This reckless action has the potential to contaminate water supplies or lead to pollution incidents.
