Armagh Sewerage Improvement Scheme - update

10 January 2017 17:11

NI Water is continuing work on this £3 million programme to improve the sewerage network in Armagh.

Work is now underway on the Newry Road to complete the remaining sections of the sewer upgrades. This work will involve the laying of small sections of sewer, along with connections to the existing sewerage system, and will take place above and below Folly Lane. Work is currently underway on the country bound side of Folly Lane and will then move on to the city bound side of Folly Lane. It is anticipated that this section of work will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.

During this time two-way traffic flow will be maintained by the use of temporary traffic lights or stop/go boards. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents where possible, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. To minimise disruption to the public and road users, the working hours for these two sections of work will be 9.15am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Following completion of these two sections there is a final a section of work to be completed on the Newry Road, however the date and timings of this work are subject to agreement with TransportNI.

Grahame Millar NI Water Head of Wastewater Capital Networks Delivery said:
“Improving and maintaining our critical drainage infrastructure in a fit-for-purpose state is an investment priority for NI Water.

“This local investment will reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding, improve water discharge quality to local watercourses and help facilitate future development all of which is vitally important to this area. It will also help resolve ongoing maintenance issues and associated local disruption. These improvements will deliver benefits for the local community and visitors to the city of Armagh for many years to come.”

“I would like to thank the public and all our stakeholders for their continued patience as we work to complete this essential scheme. Traffic management and signage will be in place and NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering will do everything we can to minimise disruption in the area.”
