NI Water Storm Sewer – Sloan Street, Dungannon - Update

13 December 2016 10:02

NI Water would like to announce that work will commence on a new storm sewer in Dungannon on 4th January 2016. It is anticipated that the work will take approximately 10 weeks to complete.

This project which was originally planned to commence in October 2016 was postponed following discussions with residents, traders and key stakeholders.

The work will involve the laying of approximately 290m of new storm sewer within Barrack Street, Georges Street and Sloan Street which will be completed in phases. Work will commence at the bottom end of Barrack Street and progress towards Scotch Street, along George Street and up Sloan Street to the new development.

The new storm sewer is being laid to serve the newly developed housing complex on Sloan Street, formally the bakery site. This work will also remove storm water from the existing combined sewers which will reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding in the area and provide environmental improvements.

Grahame Millar Project Sponsor said:

“Extending and enhancing our critical sewerage infrastructure is an investment priority for NI Water.
“NI Water has taken on board concerns and re-programmed the work to meet the needs of the local community and will continue to work closely with all our key stakeholders as this scheme progresses.

“Work can now get underway to deliver this essential service to the new development.”

Traffic management arrangements have been discussed with TransportNI and in order to carry out the work safely and protect the safety of road users, the public and construction workers, it will be necessary to have road closures in place. The initial road closure will commence in Barrack Street on 4th of January for approximately 6 weeks. This will be followed by road closures in George Street and then Sloan Street as the work progresses. Appropriate signage will be in place, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted Vehicular access will be maintained for residents as far as possible and pedestrian access will be available at all times.

NI Water and our contractor Quinn Automatic would like to thank the public, local businesses and wider community in advance for their patience and co-operation while we complete these essential works and assure you every effort will be made to minimise the impact to traffic and businesses in the area.
