Armagh Sewerage Improvement Scheme - Update

27 September 2016 16:52

NI Water would like to update the public on the £3 million programme of work currently being carried out to improve the sewerage network in Armagh.

Construction work will re-commence on Mall East week beginning 3rd October 2016 and we anticipate that this work will take approximately 2 weeks to complete.

This is a continuation of the work previously undertaken on Mall East and will include a major connection to the existing sewerage network.

Working hours will generally be Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday 8.00am to 1.00pm, however it may be necessary for some work to be completed outside of these hours.

Public safety is a high priority for NI Water, and in order for the works to be undertaken safely for both the public and the NI Water contract staff, it will be necessary to implement a one way closure along Mall East for Goal Square bound traffic only.  This will commence on 3rd October for approximately 2 weeks. Traffic management arrangements will be in place and traffic approaching Mall East from the Courthouse will be diverted via Mall West.

It will also be necessary to prohibit parking along a section of Mall East (at the Goal Square end) during this time; the parking areas affected will be coned off. Residential and business access may be restricted during the works. We will endeavor to reduce the impact where possible and continue to liaise with relevant businesses and residents as the works progress.

NI Water will continue to liaise with all our major stakeholders throughout this programme of work to try to minimise disruption as far as possible.

When complete, the scheme will meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency Standards, reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and facilitate future development within Armagh City for the next 30 years by improving and increasing the capacity of the sewerage infrastructure.

NI Water would like to thank the public for their continued patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.

ENDS.
