Sewer Improvement Work Continues - City Walls

NI Water is progressing well with an essential programme of sewer rehabilitation work within City Walls of Derry/Londonderry.  

Work within the Diamond area commenced on Monday 1 August 2016. Progress has been slower than expected due to the number and location of existing services along with the position of road drainage pipes. We now anticipate that this work will be completed within the next 2 weeks.

Following completion of this section, we anticipate that work will commence at the lower end of Magazine Street week during the week commencing 19 September 2016. This will involve the replacement of 70 metres of sewer and associated manholes and all work has been programmed to be completed prior to the commencement of the upcoming Public Realm work within the Walls.

Traffic management arrangements have been discussed with Transport NI and in order to carry out the works safely it will be necessary to have a road closure in place. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. There will be some parking restrictions in place as the work progresses. We anticipate that this closure will be in place for approximately 3 weeks.

Following this, further sections of work will be completed in Upper Magazine Street, Palace Street, Society Street, Bishop Street (Within), Bank Place and Ferryquay Street.

The overall programme of work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2016.

NI Water and our contractor Quinn Automatic Ltd will continue to liaise with the City Centre Initiative and local businesses throughout this essential programme of work.
