£1.8m Watermains Improvement Work to Protect Pipes for Winter gets Underway

In preparation for the winter months ahead, NI Water has identified a package of Watermains Improvement work required in the town centre areas of Dungannon, Caledon, Lurgan and Portadown. This project represents an investment of approximately £1.8 million.

A lot of the current watermains in these areas are ageing and in poor condition and require urgent upgrading. The work is good news for the local area as the upgraded watermains will improve the reliability of the water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage. It will also reduce the number of bursts, particularly over the winter months and improve the general infrastructure in these areas.

This programme of work will commence in mid-October 2012 in the town centre areas of Lurgan, Dungannon and Caledon and will then progress to Portadown and Armagh. It is anticipated that the entire programme of work will be completed by the end of June 2013. Work in the town centre areas will comply with the Roads Service Christmas embargo and there will be a break in this work from the end of November until January 2013.

NI Water and its contractor Farrans Construction would like to thank businesses, residents and road users in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work. There may be some traffic disruption in these areas while this work takes place, but we would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep it to a minimum. There may also be interruptions to the water supply but customers will be advised about any interruptions in advance.
